What I Like/Dislike About Surfer SEO
Is Surfer SEO Worth It?
If you’re serious about ranking higher in Google, then Surfer SEO is definitely worth the investment. It’s one of the market’s most comprehensive and user-friendly optimization tools today.
My Experience Using Surfer SEO and How I Use It
I’ve been using Surfer SEO for about a year now, and I have to say my experience using it has been a positive one.
I normally use it alongside Jasper AI as it’s integrated with Jasper, and this is my process for using it.
First, I use the Keyword Research tool in Surfer to identify the amount of traffic and difficult score to see if it’s worth pursuing. The output also shows additional keyword suggestions to help with your content.
This feature also gives me lots of topic clusters around my keyword for ideas to use in the articles also, these ideas can be used to create more articles for supporting content, which Google likes.
You can filter the keyword intent from transactional, informational, or commercial, which helps to match your post with the searcher’s intent.
Now the main step with the Content Editor is to reveal the analysis based on your (or Surfer’s recommendation) of the chosen top ten ranking websites.
You will get all the information you need to optimize your content to help you rank higher. The length (word count), number of paragraphs, headings, and so forth. I can’t imagine writing without this guide; it is a game-changer for SEO.
As you write, Surfer can import relevant images for you and also has a plagiarism tool to ensure the content is original. It basically ticks off the keywords as you write them and gives you an overall score to guide you, with the optimal being 70 or above.
I can also get ideas for headlines, FAQs, and other info, which helps build an article outline.
As soon as the article is published, my favorite tool, the Site Audit, gets to work and presents you with a list of keywords/phrases to add or remove, site speed, length, and much more. It takes the whole page into account, which is why it is a different analysis from the page when you were writing.
Surfer SEO Features
So here is a quick breakdown of the features.
After putting in your keyword, the SERP analyzer reveals information on the pages that are ranking with a breakdown of their content and keywords. You can filter out the results according to your needs. An example would be to filter exact keywords, partial keywords, keyword density, and more.
It reveals the most popular questions asked, which is great to help you meet the searcher’s intent in your articles and also good for your FAQ section.
In addition, you can see your competitor’s backlinks and filter from various options like follow, sponsored, and so forth, which can be useful for your own link-building efforts.
Finding this information yourself would take hours, but Surfer SEO does it in seconds.
I covered this briefly before, and while not up to the level of Ahrefs, for example, Surfer’s keyword research tool is improving with each update.
Here you can also see the questions asked, having same terms and, of course, the difficulty score and traffic volume.
This is also where you get the content clusters filtered by intent, volume, and keyword difficulty.
Sometimes, I get over 80 clusters, each containing multiple keywords, which is great for the content I’m working on and for future articles.
This makes writing far less stressful, as it displays the keywords from the top-ranking sites it deems are suitable for your article, with the frequency you should use them, and shows you as you write how you are progressing using them.
Using the outline tab to further improve your content, you get optimized suggestions on titles, headings, and questions.
Its Natural Language Processing (NLP) ensures your writing is good for humans and not just search engines!
Once your content is published, put in your URL and keyword, filter for target country and mobile/desktop crawler, and you’re good.
What you get back from site auditing are things you should work on, including removing or adding relevant keywords, ideas for backlinks, internal links to add, a word count indicator, page structure, and page speed.
For the best results, link Surfer SEO to your Google Search Console, which is critical for the next section.
This great feature works best when you connect it to your Google Console to help further optimize your content. Simply input your site and you will get a list of the 100 top-performing pages. Here you can see what keywords you are ranking for, the search volume, and their positions in the SERPs.
This helps you stay in control and adjust your content to help it rank higher.
Once your site is connected to Surfer SEO, their Grow Flow feature will analyze your site and give you tasks to complete each week. I love it as it keeps you on your toes and helps you to complete specific tasks to rank your content higher.
So some examples that I get are adding missing keywords to posts, specific ideas for internal linking, adding more content, and suggestions for future article topics.
This is a relatively new tool, and while extremely useful, it can occasionally give you some weird and irrelevant suggestions. However, it’s improving each week and is a great tool to have.
